An open road with yellow center lines stretching toward the horizon

Relationships can bring great joy and companionship — and seasons of real trial. Whether you are preparing for marriage, weathering conflict, or rebuilding connection after life changed (a baby, a loss, a betrayal, a long slow drift), couples counseling gives you a structured place to find each other again.

I provide premarital and couples counseling using the Gottman Method, a research-based approach built on four decades of study into what actually makes relationships succeed. This is not about a referee declaring who's right. It is about learning the skills — and rebuilding the friendship — that lasting relationships run on.

What is the Gottman Method?

The Gottman Method comes from Drs. John and Julie Gottman's research on thousands of couples. It identifies the specific patterns that predict relationship distress — criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and stonewalling — and replaces them with concrete, learnable skills: softened conflict, real repair attempts, deeper friendship, and shared meaning. It is practical, structured, and backed by evidence.

Couples counseling after a baby

Because perinatal mental health is my specialty, I hold particular space for couples in the transition to parenthood. A new baby reorganizes everything — sleep, roles, intimacy, identity — and it is one of the most common seasons for couples to feel like roommates instead of partners. Getting support early in this transition is one of the best investments you can make in your family.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Gottman Method evidence-based?

Yes. The Gottman Method is grounded in more than four decades of research on thousands of couples, including longitudinal studies of what predicts relationship success and divorce. It translates that research into concrete, learnable skills.

My partner is hesitant about couples therapy. Is that normal?

Very. It's common for one partner to arrive more ready than the other. A free phone consultation is a low-pressure way for both of you to ask questions and get a feel for the process before committing to anything.

Do you offer premarital counseling?

Yes. Premarital counseling with the Gottman Method helps you build communication and conflict skills, align expectations around finances, family, and roles, and strengthen your friendship before marriage — it's some of the most preventive work a couple can do.

Can couples counseling be done online?

Yes. I see couples in person in Argyle, TX and via secure telehealth when both partners are located in Texas or both in California.

Ready to take the first step?

Your initial phone consultation is free. Share what's going on, ask anything, and see if we're the right fit — no pressure, no commitment.
